What is a perpetual motion machine, what is an articulated shaft good for, how can the Morse code be used to transmit messages? Answers to these and other questions can now be found with the fischertechnik PROFI Technical Revolutions construction kit. With eleven models and the detailed instruction booklet, young inventors aged nine years and older can now recreate milestones of technical developments and discover their explorer's spirit on the way.

Inventors inspire people – mainly children and young people – with their courage to find unconventional solutions and go along untrodden paths. The fischertechnik PROFI Technical Revolutions construction kit helps children and young people to follow this path and to learn. With 220 parts, an XS motor and a battery compartment, the kit allows young inventors to build eleven models and to experience the joys of discovery. Each of these models can be built, with the children guided by the detailed instruction booklet. The detailed and instructive instruction notes give valuable information for each model and help to understand the underlying principles of the invention.

The wheel of the perpetual motion machine keeps on turning, with arms attached to the side moving down during the downward movement and rotating back during the upward movement. Although the wheel has no external drive, it doesn’t seem to slow down. Or does it? Leonardo da Vinci, the ingenious inventor of the 16th century, was one of the first who tried to build a functioning perpetual motion machine. The idea behind it is a machine which – without receiving a second drive impulse from the outside – doesn't stop moving. Using the fischertechnik model, da Vinci's experiment can be recreated to see whether the machine works.

The articulated or cardan shaft was developed by the Italian inventor Geramola Cardano in the 16th century. Today, this special joint is used in many everyday machines such as cars, trucks or electric locomotives. The model of the shaft demonstrates how easily a rotating motion can be redirected round corners. But the model also shows how complex the mechanical engineering is in this invention.

The model of the Morse apparatus allows young inventors to dive into the early years of wireless communication. The apparatus, developed in 1833 by Samuel Morse, was the first of its kind to transmit information via electric power. Pressing a key at regular intervals closes and opens an electric circuit, with the electric impulses generating the short and long signals of the Morse code. These, in turn, form letters and whole words which can be transmitted to a receiver.
